George Nash

George Nash, 63, of Marshalltown, Iowa and formerly of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on the morning of December 17, 2021 at UnityPoint Health Marshalltown, surrounded by his loving family. At this time cremation rites have been accorded and a private family graveside service will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for George and his family. George Evert Nash was born July 25, 1958 to parents Charles and Ellen (Anderson) Nash in Des Moines, Iowa. He attended school in Des Moines and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1976. George was a hard worker, he worked within corrections for a number of years after high school before he came to work in Marshalltown at the Iowa Veterans Home as a RTW for five years. After leaving the Veteran’s home, George went to Des Moines and worked for the VA hospital as a police dispatch for over 15 years until his retirement in 2020. On June 12, 1998, he was united in marriage to Christine McGrew in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was a proud member of the Des Moines UAW. In his free time, George enjoyed being at home with his wife Christine and watching documentaries and true crime stories. He loved to read and go on occasional fishing trips. He was fascinated with war history and would read up as much as he could. He loved his animals Casper, Moose, and his childhood dog bebe. He will be missed for his loveable sarcasm, his hard work ethic, fun manner, and sense of humor. He is survived by his wife Christine; his children Molly (Steve) Holman, Beth Scharpenter, Kelly Nash, and Samantha (Matt) Ellison; his grandchildren who called him much loved papa, Paul Nash, Leah and Matthew Scharpenter, Nathan and Ryan Holman, and Avery, Aubry and Alexi Ellison; his father Charles (Evelyn) Nash; his sister Janice (Dan) Cameron; his nieces and nephews Sean, Jill, and Betsy Cameron; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother Ellen (Anderson) Nash and his grandparents.
