George A. Smith

George A. Smith, age 80, passed away at home in the care of Iowa River Hospice, his wife Lynette, and fur baby Belle on Sunday, January 19, 2025.

Per his wishes, there will be no formal services at this time. Memorials can be given to Iowa River Hospice or the Animal Rescue League. Mitchell Family Funeral Home of Marshalltown has been entrusted with care for George and his family. George Arthur Smith was born November 22, 1944, in Jersey City, New Jersey. He was the son of Dolores (Falabella) Smith. George proudly served on two tours during the Vietnam War in the United States Navy and the National Guard. On September 16, 1978, George married the love of his life, Lynette (Freese) Smith at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in New Jersey. They both eventually made their home in Melbourne, Iowa.

George was a life-long self-employed union carpenter. He was involved in high-rise and regular carpentry in New York, New Jersey, and Iowa. In his free time, George enjoyed gardening, fishing, spoiling his dogs, playing the guitar and was also known as an excellent storyteller.

He is survived by his wife, Lynette and his fur baby, Belle.

George is preceded in death by his mother Dolores.
