Jerry Anson, 85 of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on, Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 16, 2012 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July15, 2012 from 5:00 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Military Honors will be presented by American Legion Frank Lewis Glick Post # 46 and Harry C. Harter Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #839. Jerrys family would like to encourage casual dress at his service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Animal Rescue League. Anson was born on February 17, 1927 at home in Marshalltown, Iowa, he was the son of Homer and Wilma (Brown) Anson. He had attended school in the Marshalltown School District, graduatingwith the class of 1947, Jerry had left school and served our country honorably in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946 during WWII. He then used the GI Bill and took lessons to receive his pilots license. On January 11, 1947 Jerry was united in marriage to Marilyn Burt in Hiawatha, Kansas. They had lived their entire married lives in Marshalltown. Jerry had been employed with Lennox Industries for 41 years, retiring in 1990. Jerry had a great love of the outdoors. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, boating, and for years he and his hunting friends would go to Wall Lake to duck hunt. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, motorcycling, and riding the ATV. Jerry was very proud of his heritage being the third generation of the Henry Anson family.He also had a great pride and love for his children and grandchildren. In 2003, he and his brother Bob were the Grand Marshalls for the Oktoberfest Parade. Jerry knew no strangers and had many many friends.Left to cherish Jerrys memory is his wife of 65 years, MarilynAnson of Marshalltown, Iowa, his children: Terry (Beth) Anson of Marshalltown, Gary (Cheryl) Anson of Solon, Iowa and Kevin (Dawn) Anson of Carnation, Washington, grandchildren: Jodi (Scott) Kurimski of Epworth, Iowa, Melani (Brendan) Piscitelli of Marshalltown, Cory (LuAnn) Anson of Chandler Arizona, Melissa (Ryan) Lux of Tiffin, Iowa, Aaron (Kristin) Anson of Cary, North Carolina, Cody Anson of Seattle Washington and Kyle Anson of Eugene, Oregon, 11 great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Hope Anson of Marshalltown, Iowa.Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Homer and Wilma, an infant daughter, Jerilynn, a grandson, Alex Anson and his brother Bob Anson.
