Gerald Enlow, 65, of Washington, Iowa and formerly of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away surrounded by his family on the evening of October 9, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.
A celebration of Gerald’s life will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the family for a later designation. Gerald Dean Enlow was born on August 5, 1959 in Bloomfield, Iowa. He was the oldest of four children born to Preston and Ruth (Grosvenor)Enlow. Gerald grew up in Marshalltown and attended school there until his family moved at the beginning of his high school years to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He graduated high school in Sioux Falls as part of the class of 1977. Gerald moved back to Marshalltown Following high school and began work within various places. Over the years, he worked for Cesford Construction, KIOWA and worked for the Northern Border Pipeline. In 1986, Gerald met Carlene Prazak in 1986. They were friends at that time but in the early 1990’s, Gerald and Carlene began to date and remained special friends over the years. In 2010, he moved to Washington, Iowa in order to care for his mother. This also meant an early retirement so that he was able to give her the care she needed.
Gerald was never married and never had any children himself but was always great around children. He adored spending time with his nieces and nephews. In his free time, he loved anything that went fast and had a motor. He rode down the roads in his Harley Davidson Motorcycle as well as having a passion for old muscle cars. He knew every road you could just about think of and would hit the road at a moment’s notice. His favorite place in nature to be was trips to Yellow River in Iowa for trout fishing or headed down to Mexico for the fishing. He was an avid hunter going after pheasants and other wildlife whichever the season ended up being. In general, he just was happy to be with his family whenever he was able to do so. He had the attitude of nobody was a stranger.
Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his siblings, Harold Enlow, Gloria Kriegel, and Preston Enlow; his aunts and uncles, Pauline, Clifford, Barbara, Kathy and Ronda; his nieces and nephews, Paige, Andy, Brittany, Allen, Brandy, Mike, Gary, Preston, Justin, Whitney and Alyssa; great-nieces and nephews, Joseph, Ely, Olivia, Hazel, Stella, Jaxon, Macey, Parker, Piper, Kenzie, Willow, Taylan, Jerrick, Katrina, Roger and Portland; his special friend, Carlene Prazak; and numerous cousins and other extended family members.
He is preceded in death by his father Preston Enlow in 2015, his mother Ruth Enlow in 2024 and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
