Gerald David Joe Nelson, 72, of Melbourne, died Monday, December 14, 2009, at his home while in the care of his family and Iowa River Hospice.Open visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 17th, 2009, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. He was the son of Kenneth and Floy (Rector) Nelson. He was educated in the area of his birth. On February 13, 1987, Joe married Regina Slocum in Marshalltown. The couple lived in Melbourne.Joe worked as an independent contractor laying carpet. He enjoyed fishing, building things, and was an outdoorsman.He will be missed by his wife, Reggie Nelson, of Melbourne; his brother, Todd Nelson; his sister, Claudia Kramer; and numerous relatives and friends.In death, Joe rejoins his parents.
