Gerald Shollenbarger, 84, of Marshalltown died Friday, May 21, 2010, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. At Jerrys request there will be no formal service. A private graveside service will be at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family. Phone 641-844-1234 Gerald Dean Shollenbarger was born in Green Castle Township on June 23, 1925. He was the son of Charley and Mabel (Kelley) Shollenbarger. Jerry was educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Gilman High School in 1942. He served his country honorably from 1943 to 1945 in the Air Force, retiring as a Staff Sergeant. On November 15, 1942, he married his wife, Evalyn (Peg) Myers in Lancaster, Missouri. Shortly after their marriage they made their home in Marshalltown.Jerry had been a mechanic and for the last 17 years he owned G&S Brake Shop. He was a member of the local VFW and the Elks. Jerry loved his family but especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; he loved to fish and lived to fish. Jerry will fondly be remembered by his loving wife of 68 years, Peg; his children Linda Eggleston, Gary (Diane) Shollenbarger, Susan Heil, and Nicki (Ron) Ridout, all of Marshalltown; his grandchildren Kim, Scott, Kellie, Brandi, Jeff, Michelle and Bobbie; his great-grandchildren Lauren, Jayden, Jordyn, Mason, Cole and Caitlyn, and many nieces and nephews. In death Jerry rejoins his parents, his beloved daughter, Peggy, his brothers Kenneth, Charles, Harold and Virgil, and his sisters Marie Fuller and Shirley Swenson.
