Gerald Jerry Varnum, 75, of Marshalltown, died early Saturday morning, December 6th, at his home while in the care of his loving family and the Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 13th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Ph 641-844-1234. Born on July 23rd, 1933, in Marshalltown, he was one of two sons born to H.L. Bud and Ruth (Martin) Varnum. He graduated from the Marshalltown High School in 1951 and the Marshalltown Junior College in 1953. Jerry served our country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War.On June 8th, 1957, he was united in marriage to Yvonne Nelson in Nevada, Iowa. They made their home in Marshalltown all of their married lives with the exception of five years in Texas for Fishers. Jerry retired after 36 years of faithful service to Fishers and had most recently worked for Central-Iowa Machine Shop in Marshalltown.Left to cherish his memory is Yvonne, his loving wife of 51 years, two children: Mark of Marshalltown and Mona (Al) Stanton of Haverhill, two grandchildren: Amber and Ashley and two great-grandchildren: Ethan and Abigail, his step-father-in-law E.T. Bill Collins of Marshalltown and several friends.In death he has rejoined his parents, brother James of Ames, daughter Marcy and granddaughter Stephanie.
