Gerald Eugene Workman was born December 31, 1951 in Glasgow, Kentucky. He was the oldest of two children born to Thomas and Geneva (Gaskins) Workman. He was raised in Louisville, Kentucky where he attended school and later graduated from Fern Creek High School. After graduation, Sparky joined the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. After serving his years, he was honorably discharged from service and retuned to Kentucky.
While still in the Louisville area, Sparky met Lisa Herndon. After years of dating, they tied the knot in 1983. They made a life together and raised two children, David and Melissa. They moved back to Kentucky for a brief period of time before coming to Iowa in 1988. Sparky worked for MICA in Marshalltown for many years but outside of MICA he was well known around the community for his side business in the HVAC industry. In free time, Sparky loved to spend time with his family, go for rides on his Harley Davidson Motorcycle, and spend time outdoors. During these times he was fond of taking part in fishing, hunting, going camping and kicking back a few beers.
Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his wife, Lisa Workman; his children, David (Ashley) Workman and Melissa Workman; grandchildren, Levi and Brody Workman, Dakota Hartman, Jesse and Evan Stevens and Nova and Tristan Butcher. Also surviving him are many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Geneva Workman and his brother, David Ray Workman Sr.
