July 12, 2018, was the day God set aside for Gertrude Josephine (Kriegel) Anderly to be reunited with her son and the rest of her family in heaven.At the age of 100 ½ years old she suffered a stroke and after a day in the hospital she was transferred to the Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was cared for lovingly, respectfully and with the upmost dignity. She took her last breath on earth surrounded by her daughter-in-law, Betty and her granddaughters Dena and Jodie. A Catholic mass and Burial will be on Monday, July 16, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St Henry Catholic Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Gertrude Josephine Kriegel was born on January 22, 1918, at home in Poweshiek County to Nicholas and Josephine (Roth) Kriegel. She attended Champion Hill schoolhouse through the eighth grade walking 3 miles to and from school each day. As the last living sibling she was proceeded in death by her parents Nicholas and Josephine, her siblings, Helen, Kathryn, Louise, John, Madeline, Eugene, Charles, Veronica, Josephine, Donald and Janet, as well as her only son Edward and her two husbands Joseph Spickert and Douglas Anderly.  Gertrude married Joseph John Spickert on September 15, 1937, and they made their home in Marshall and Tama Counties. They had only one son, Edward Joseph Spickert born on Sept 1, 1939. Joseph passed away on Sept 11, 1958, leaving her widowed until she was united in marriage to Douglas Anderly on September 4, 1965. They made their home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa until Dougs death on April 11, 1984.Gertrude was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Forrester, the St Mary’s sewing group, the senior group and the funeral committee. She worked for Fisher controls in her earlier years as well as helping to run a nursing home in Tama and cleaning homes for others. She loved being a homemaker, mother, grandmother and caretaker. She especially enjoyed spending time with all her family and all the family reunions. Gertrude took pride in all she did and was quite a perfectionist. Gert was a wonderful cook and will be remembered fondly for her large variety of cookies, the best fudge ever and her homemade chicken and noodles. A very giving and caring woman. Left to cherish Gertrude’s memory is her daughter-in-law, Betty Spickert, grandchildren, Todd(Ramona) Spickert, Dena(Thomas) Triplett, Jodie( David) Higgason and great-grand-children, Chaz, Alexa(Matthew), Ashley, Sierra, Emily, Spencer, Emma and Sawyer as well as her many nieces and nephews and 2 sister-in-laws.
