Giana "Gigi" Alvarez

Giana “GiGi” Dominique Alvarez, 21, of Marshalltown, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday morning, July 19, 2023.

Funeral services for Giana will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Giana “GiGi” Alvarez was born on January 11, 2002 in Paramount, California. She was the daughter of Fredy Moz and Stephanie (Luna) Moz. Giana graduated from Marshalltown High School in 2020. She had worked at Casey’s and was getting ready to start her new job at ABM Cleaning. Giana enjoyed the ocean and going to the beach; riding and caring for horses; watching movies with her family; and most importantly, being a mother to her 2 year old son: Blake (or Mr. Butt Butt as he was sometimes referred as). Giana was a fantastic mom; she was caring, protective and had a heart of gold. She was also a great dancer and had a good sense of humor. She enjoyed volunteering at Helping Hands, helping mentally disabled people ride and care for horses. GiGi was the life of the party and had a beautiful smile.

Giana is survived by her mother and step-father: Stephanie and Fredy Moz; son: Blake Lorenzo Thomas; siblings: Max Moz, Luis Chavez, Sophia Moz, Emily Moz and Ariana Moz. She is also survived by her father: Michael Alvarez and her grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, other family members, and the father of her son and love of her life: RJ Thomas.

Giana is preceded in death by her great grandparents and other extended family.
