Gilbert Lee Fuller, (Gib)AKA Grandpa Whipper Snapper, 81, of the State Center Nursing and Rehab in State Center, died late Saturday night, August 25th, while in care of the manor and the Iowa River Hospice with his loving family at his side. Memorial services celebrating his life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 1st, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. There will be a time of fellowship and refreshments immediately following. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 6-8:00 p.m. on THURSDAY, August 30th. Born on September 17th, 1925, at home in rural Ferguson, Marshall County, Iowa, he was the son of James Leslie and Florence (Hainke) Fuller. He graduated from the Ferguson High Schools Class of 1943. Mr. Fuller was employed at the Gilman Elevator, as a farmhand for many area farmers, retired from Swift and Co. and owned and operated Fullers Bargain Barn in Newton. He enjoyed sports- especially high school softball and baseball games, music, dancing, local history,was instrumental in establishing the Fuller Arboretum at Green Castle and was a member of the Gilman Saddle Club where he drove his ponies in parades. He was also a charter member of the Laurel Lions Club and served as a scoutmaster for years. He is co-president of the State Center Senior Citizens. He greatly enjoyed spending time with all his children, grandchildren and friends. In his colorful lifetime, he called the communities of Ferguson, Marshalltown, Gilman, Newton and State Center his home. On December 22nd, 1945, he was united in marriage to Doris Carson. They divorced in 1967. On August 18th, 1972, he married Patricia Marcsisak. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Nancy Lee (Roger) Mommer of Donna, Texas, Roger Leslie Fuller of Grinnell, Marvis Lorraine (Richard) Drew of rural Marshalltown, Tim (Beth) Marcsisak of Messina, Iowa, Sharon Boughner of Newton, Tom (Pam) Fuller of Tampa, FL., and Tammie (Rich) Lewis of Melcher-Dallas, Iowa, grandchildren: Randy Alan (Connie) Mommer of Gilman, Kevin Lee (Shelly) Mommer of Guttenberg, Iowa, Leslie Gilbert Fuller of Grinnell, Alisa Marie (John) Schroeder of Searsboro, Steven James Fuller of Grinnell, Heide Marie Fuller of Gilman, Benjamin Robert (Jennifer) Fuller of Gilman, Jennifer Lorraine (Robert) Boggs of Roland, Robert William (Kimberly) Drew of Gladbrook, Ashley Marscisak of Greenfield, Mercedes Newby and Tatyonia Thomas of Newton, Jacob Faircloth, Jessica Faircloth, and Daniel Lewis all of Melcher/Dallas, 16 great-grandchildren,his sister Edith Botts of the Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center, his special friend Maxine Viers of Maxwell,many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In death he has rejoined his parents, his wife Patricia, brothers: Harv, Ben, Case, Jim, Bus, sisters: Marie and Ruby Poling, nephew Dick Botts and niece Bonnie Pence.
