Gilbert C. Kester

Gilbert Kester, 77 of Clemons, Iowa passed away on Saturday night, October 15, 2011 at home. His death came peacefully at11:45 p.m. while in the care of family and Iowa Hospice. Gib requested no formal funeral services or visitation, however, the family invites you to a memorial gathering to celebrate his life from 1 to 4:00 p.m. on the afternoon of Sunday, October 30th- the last Sunday in October. Its a time to share laughter, memories and some tears- and we know Gib would approve. He made the gift of his body to the University of Iowa in Iowa City. Following their studies, he will be laid to rest in the Watts Cemetery at Curwensville, Pennsylvania. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Gib and his family. Ph 641-844-1234. Born on May 27th, 1934, in Bells Landing, PA, he was the son of Carl and Wilda (Johnston) Kester. He graduated from the Clearfield (PA) High Schools Class of 1952 and later attended A and B Schools through the US Navy. Gib served our country honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean War for four years active and four years reserves. On June 28th, 1991, he was united in marriage to Esther (Krough) Dutton and to this union brought six step-children into his family. They made their home at Clemons until his passing. Gib was employed at the Iowa Veterans Home until retiring in 1996 and was also a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of the State Center American Legion and the Legion of Guardsmen. Gib enjoyed hunting and woodworking. Surviving are his daughter, Anita (Bruce) Levis of Marshalltown and their son Ryan, his step-children- Wendi (Jesse) Stone, Roger Dutton, Russell Dutton, Rick Dutton, Rod (Dodie) Dutton and Vicki (Stan) Huntrods, two step-sons Pat (Nancy) Waters of Cedar Rapids and Tom (Kathy) Waters of Scottsdale, AZ. As well as many grandchildren brought from the Dutton family. In death, Gib rejoined his parents, his wife Esther, one brother and three sisters.
