Gilbert Lilly

Gilbert Blaine Lilly, 81, of Marshalltown, died early Friday morning, May 21, 2010, at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph 641-844-1234. Born on March 28, 1929, in Del Norte, Colorado, he was the son of Willard and Elizabeth (McGuire) Lilly. He grew up and attended school in the area of his birth. He was a member of the United States Air Force and then joined the U.S. Marine Corps. On June 23, 1953, he was united in marriage to Bernadell Duffy in Raton, New Mexico. The couple lived in Colorado for a while, before moving to Marshalltown 50-plus years ago. Gilbert was employed at KIOWA Corp. for more than 18 years. He loved his family and the day care kids, enjoyed playing cards, doing yard work and always had a project going. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Bernadell; his three children: David (Kim) Lilly of Tennessee, Bernadean (Scott) Campbell of Oklahoma and Peggy (Robert) White of Mississippi; his grandchildren: Stephanie (Ryan) Anderson, Mathew Baker, Mike Lilly, Jenny Lilly, Ben Mandsager and Jessie (Keith) Filley; and six great-grandchildren. In death, he rejoined his parents and a brother, Robert Lilly.
