Gilbert (Gil) L. Mobley, 69, of Marshalltown died Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Private interment will be at a later date. Full military honors will be provided by VFW Harry C. Harter Post #839. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 23, 2010, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Gilbert Lawrence Mobley was born on May 2, 1940, to Lyle and Ruby (Lawrence) Mobley. Gil graduated from GMG High School with the class of 1958. Gil served his country from 1964 to 1968 in the United States Army. On May 24, 1997, Gil married Barb Rogers in Marshalltown. He had lived most of his adult life in Marshalltown. Gil had worked in Marshalltown for Arbie Feeds, Harkers Meat and his last 29 years at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Gil was a member of AFSCME Local 2984 and served as vice president. Gil enjoyed bowling and belonged to a league, he coached area girls softball teams, he loved to fish and lived to fish, also a diehard Chicago Cubs fan, Gil collected baseball cards and any thing Cubs oriented and Christmas was his favorite holiday. Gil will be remembered for his caring for and about others, and never met a stranger. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Barb of Marshalltown; his children: Joe (Jessica Starn) Dolash of Conrad, Amy Drennon-Birkenholtz of Marshalltown, Lori Finch of Salina, Kansas, Steve Mobley of Des Moines, and Kris (Darrell) Eastin of Mercer, Missouri; his grandchildren: Jordon and Jaydon Dolash, Logan Birkenholtz, Brandi and Chad Trusty, Travis Finch, Jenny Mobley-Barker, Kayla Mobley, Alyssa and Mirissa Mobley and Aly, Mandy, Levi and Morgan Eastin; and eight great-grand-children; siblings: Marlene Zirbel and Gordon Mobley; and a half-brother Brett Mobley; and many nieces and nephews. Gil was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Mike Mobley.
