Ginger Price

October 5, 1949 — March 7, 2024

Ginger (Jacobs) Price was born on October 5, 1949 in Iowa City, Iowa and passed away on March 7, 2024 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa. She was born to Frank and Alma (Rutter) Jacobs. She married the love of her life, Charles on June 8, 1968 at Pleasant Grove Church, rural Ames, Iowa. To this union were born three children, Kenneth, Michael and Candace.

Ginger attended schools in Ames, Gilbert and United Community. Graduating in 1968, from United, the first class to graduate from the new high school. Also, the year the class decided to have the procession look good and go by height. So Ginger was the first graduate to receiver her diploma in the new school. She always figured they should have a picture of her on the school walls to commemorate that, but was not to be.

Ginger and Chuck lived in many places during their married life as Chuck was in the Navy. They started out in North Chicago while Chuck was attending Navy School. Ginger returned to Iowa while Chuck went to Vietnam on the USS Canberra. Ginger was sharing an apartment with her brother Tom in Boone. In 1969, they moved to Long Beach, California then to San Diego, California. While in San Diego, they learned that the Canberra was to be decommissioned and Chuck would get an early discharge. Ginger, pregnant at the time moved back with her parents outside of Story City. After the birth of their son Kenny, Ginger rented a house in Gilbert. Then Chuck was discharged in January 1970. Finding a job in State Center they moved there. Then to home in Colo, before buying their home in State Center.

Ginger loved all kinds of sewing and crafts but quilting was her favorite. She made 6 wedding dresses for family. She took the most pride in making her daughter’s wedding dress, which took almost a year to make sewing on all the beads and sequins herself. She also altered every prom dress that her granddaughter Katie wore and some of her friends. She was also proud of the jeans quilts made from the jeans her family wore throughout the years for her children and grandchildren.

NOTHING absolutely nothing was more important to her than family. The love she had for her grandchildren would surpass none other.

Ginger was also the holder of the family history files her mother started. She continued adding to her mother’s genealogy records. Finding elusive Price family history. Even expanding to find lost family for her son-in-law Pat. Knowing that ancestors were important, after all “We are who we are because they were who they were.” She now passes this torch on to Sonia and Evelyn. Carry on Girls.

Ginger is survived by her husband Chuck, children Michael and Jennifer (Smith) Price and Candace and Pat Cahalan; grandsons, Keegan and Connor Cahalan and Nicholas Price and granddaughter, Katie Price. Sister Frances (Blas) Arellano, brother Jerry (Kris) Jacobs. Sister-in-law, Evelyn (Price) Luing; aunt Donna Jacobs. She will miss them all.

Ginger will now go to be with her departed family, son Kenny; parents Frank and Alma, beloved brother Tom and sister Lynn. She always believed she would see them again.
