Gladys Marie Walton

Gladys Walton, age 99, of Marshalltown, passed away on Friday night, November 1st, at the Grandview Heights in Marshalltown.           Memorial services to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 7th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Ph. 641-844-1234.           Born Gladys Marie Reeves on March 21st, 1920, in rural Tama County, she was the daughter of Edward and Edna (Brewer) Reeves. She received her education in the area of her birth.           In 1937, she was united in marriage to James Dewey. Though they later divorced, they were both blessed with three beautiful daughters- Shirley, Nancy and Joyce. She later married Nick Patakotis and assisted him in his shoe repair store in Marshalltown. He passed away in 1970. In the early 1980’s, she married Tom Walton and resided in Belle Plaine, working with him at the cleaners. She moved to Marshalltown after his passing.           Gladys deeply loved her family and the time spent with them. Her grandchildren were a highlight! She enjoyed playing cards (poker, scat and pepper), going to the casino, playing bingo, her dog Ginger and the summers shared with three families at “Papanstan”- the cabin up north.           Left to cherish her memory are three daughters: Shirley (the late Jim) Beurskens of Marshalltown, Nancy (Roger) Suey of Fremont, NE, and Joyce (the late Dick) Elliott of Marshalltown; seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother, Roger (Diane) Reeves of Albion and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.           In death, Gladys rejoined her parents, her husbands, grandchildren- Joe Beurskens, Carol Snider, Cary Beurskens, Dean Beurskens and Tera Gorsuch, and siblings Eleanor Zhorne and Eldon Reeves.
