Glendora Hollingsworth

Glendora Hollingsworth, 102, of Marshalltown, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at The Willows of Marshalltown.

A visitation for Glendora will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Glendora Holmes was born on November 1, 1921 in Ames, Iowa. She was the daughter to Gunder and Serina Holmes. She graduated from Gilbert High School and then went on to Iowa State University. In July of 1942, Glendora was united in marriage to Carl N. Hollingsworth. Carl served in the Coast Guard and they were stationed in New York, and later settled in Marshalltown on 2nd Street up the alley from Hollingsworth Manufacturing. Glendora and Carl started a family of three: Ellen, Craig and Janis. They moved to the little yellow house in the woods along the Iowa River in 1955 where they spent the rest of their years. Glendora was a lover of the Lord and all things in nature. She could tell you every species of tree birds and flowers and loved all the little creatures of those woods.

Glendora is survived by her children: Ellen (Doug) McKay, Craig (Mary) Hollingsworth and Janis (Mike) Leath. Grandchildren: Sherry (Dwight) Martin, Tanya (Darrel) DeFrance, Lori (Perry) Hollingsworth-Burds and Tiffany Holmes. She is also survived by her great grandchildren: Lindsey (Bobby) Young, Willie (Bre) Mathern, Tyler Woehlk, Sarah (T.J.) Andrews, Levi (Taylor) Woehlk, Laura (Drew) Streeter, Brittany DeFrance, Garrett Holmes and Aneesah Holmes. Also left to cherish her memory are her sixteen great-great grandchildren and twins on the way, adding to her legacy. She also leaves behind lifelong friends: Garry and Bobbi Brandenburg.

Glendora is preceded in death by her loving husband, Carl whom passed away in 2009; parents: Gunder and Serina; sister: Evelyn (Paul) Uthe; brother: Arthur Holmes; great-great granddaughter: Daphne Streeter; mother and father-in-law: Carl W. and Byrdella Hollingsworth; brother and sister-in-law: Gail and Roger Schenk, along with many nieces and nephews.
