Glenn Joseph Staebler, 86, of Marshalltown, died Wednesday July 8th, 2009 at Grandview Heights Nursing Home. A celebration of Glenns life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 11th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. Saturday until service time. He will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery. Glenns family has requested that memorials be made to Iowa River Hospice or St. Henrys Catholic Church. Glenn was born November 10th, 1922 in Haverhill to parents Arthur and Priscilla (Augustine) Staebler. Glenn attended school at St. Marys. In 1942, Glenn joined the United States Marine Corps and served in Hawaii during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge in 1946, Glenn returned to Marshalltown.On September 10th, 1947he was united in marriage to Mildred Gile Buchwald. The couple made their home in Marshalltown, where Glenn worked for R.D. Stewart. Glenn enjoyed his carpentry work, and built his own home in 1957 where he and Mildred raised her children. He enjoyed ballroom dancing and was a member of the Elks Lodge in Marshalltown, where he served as Exalted Ruler several times. Left to mourn their loss, and celebrate Glenns life, is his step-son Robert (Mary) Buchwald of Marshalltown, his step-daughter Sharon (Roger) Dent of Altoona; his grandchildren Lynette Buchwald, Christopher Buchwald, and Scott Meeks; 2 great-grandchildren; his sisters Irene Shrader and Lavonne Shearer, and his brother Earl Staebler; as well as many friends. In death, Glenn has rejoined his parents, his loving wife Mildred, and 2 sisters whom passed away in infancy.
