Gordon Robert Krause

Gordon Krause, 79, of Huxley, Iowa, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2013, at the VA Hospital CLC in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ankeny, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. also at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Memorials may be directed towards St Paul Lutheran Church. Gordon Krause was born on February 27, 1934, in Waseca County, Minnesota to Walter and Martha Geisler Krause. He graduated from Gale Institute in Minneapolis in 1952. On October 19, 1957 Gordon was united in marriage to Sandra Ulen in Faribault, Minnesota. Gordon was enlisted in the United States Army from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1956. Gordon and Sandra previously resided in Clemons, Iowa Falls, Mason City, Boone, Newton and most recently in Huxley. Gordon worked on the railroad for 42 years for Chicago and Northwestern before retiring in 1995. Gordon was a member of the Ankeny American Legion Post #42 in Ankeny. Gordon also was very active in the churches in all of the communities he lived in. Gordon loved woodworking, planting and growing tomatoes and flowers, and traveling to Alaska. He was also an avid photographer and loved his grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 56 years; Sandra. Children: Greg (Brenda) Krause from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Gail (Wayne) Van Mersbergen from Bloomfield, Iowa, Gary (Suzanne) Krause of Conrad, Iowa and Gwen (Jason) Wall of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina and ten grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Siblings: Jerry Krause, Janet Marshall and Lucy Minske. Gordon is preceded in death by both parents, brother; Reuben Krause, sister; Dora Schmidtke and grandchildren Tera and Amber.
