Gregory was born June 7, 1966, in Rockford, Illinois to parents Lloyd Nennig and Pamela (Jones) Sloan. He moved to Marshalltown, Iowa, graduating from Marshalltown High School with the class of 1984. Gregory went on to obtain his degree in Food Marketing from Iowa Central Community College. He dedicated over 15 years to Hy-Vee Food Services as a Department Manager. Gregory was united to the love of his life, Linda Ellis, on May 14, 1988, at First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. Together they raised their two sons, who were Gregory’s pride and joy. In his early years, he enjoyed hunting fowl, spending time outdoors and cooking. Greg was greatly admired for his perseverance in his battle with MS. Despite any of the physical challenges that came his way, Gregory truly enjoyed his life and always stayed busy. He enjoyed people in general, chatting and making new friends everywhere he went. He was an avid Packers fan and master Galaga player. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 35 years, Linda; his two sons: Ridge (Jasmine) Nennig of Ames, IA and Reid Nennig of Marshalltown; father Lloyd Nennig of Chilton, WI; sister Shannon (Jason) Zuck of Indianola, IA; mother-in-law Marvel Ellis of Marshalltown; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Cheryl and Hank Miller; brother-in-law Doug Ellis; many aunts, uncles and cousins; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and his closest friends: Dave and Angie Fouch, Vince and Courtney Bollhoefer, and John and Amy Pollard.
In eternal life, Gregory is reunited with his mother Pamela Sloan, father-in-law Robert Ellis and brother-in-law David Ellis.
