Gwendolyn Gazaway

Gwendolyn Leota Gazaway, 89, of State Center Nursing & Rehab, and formerly of Marshalltown, died Friday, March 19th, 2010 at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. A celebration of Gwens life will be held at 10AM on Saturday, March 27th at First Baptist Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be from 6-8PM on Friday, March 26th at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to Iowa River Hospice. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Gwen and her family, phone 641-844-1234. Gwen was born in Marshalltown on December 5th, 1920 to parents Charles and Wilma (Alexander) Plumb. She attended school in Marshalltown. On April 25th, 1937 Gwen was united in marriage to John Gazaway in Marshalltown. The couple made their home in Marshalltown, where they raised their four children. Gwen worked at W.T. Grant as Office Manager, until their closing. She then worked the next 20 years in the accounting department at Commercial Bank, until retiring. Gwen loved her family, and especially enjoyed her grandchildren, as well as traveling with her late husband John. Gwen was a dear woman, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and continue to love her. Left to celebrate Gwens life are her children: Lois (Walter) Weitzell of West Des Moines, John Jr. (Suzanne) Gazaway of Sunrise Beach, MO, Gerald (Barbara) Gazaway of Marshalltown, and Timothy Gazaway of Bella Vista, AR; her 12 grandchildren; and her 16 great-grandchildren. In death, Gwen has rejoined her parents, her several brothers and sisters, and her beloved husband John (1996).
