Gwendolyn Lacina

Gwendolyn “Gwen” Lacina, 97, of Gladbrook, Iowa passed away on March 15, 2019 at the Grundy hospital in Grundy Center.    A Visitation for Gwen will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 10:30-11:30 A.M. and a graveside service at Crystal Cemetery at 1:00 P.M. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Gwen and her family.    Gwendolyn Samo was born on October 12, 1921 in Marshalltown, Iowa to parents Jack and Tressa (Hartman) Samo. She attended rural school in the Marshalltown area. She was formerly married to Eldon Thornton and had two children before she married her second husband, the late Arthur Lacina. The two were united in marriage in Traer, Iowa on June 27, 1957. The two had one child together. Gwen lived in rural Gladbrook and was a farm wife and a homemaker for the family. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, embroidery, and you would often find her on her lawn mower mowing the lawn or on her ford tractor.    Left to cherish her memory are her children from a previous marriage to Eldon Thornton, Kay (Paul) Snyder, Bill Thornton, and from her to marriage to Arthur Lacina, child Vickie Lacina; grandchildren William Thornton, Travis (Lisa) Thornton, and Ron (Kim) Snyder; great- grandchildren Jessi (Cameron) Baethke, Brandon Snyder, and Tristan Thornton.    In death, she rejoins her husband Arthur Lacina; parents Jack and Tressa Samo; and sister and brother-in-law Marvel and Wayne Wilkens.
