Gwendolyn Norman

Gwendolyn Marie Norman was born July 19, 1918, on a farm near Union, Iowa, to Ethymer and Evelyn Cox. She passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the Conrad nursing home. Gwen graduated from Union High School in 1936 and from beautician school in 1937. For a short time, she operated a beauty shop in Union, IA. Gwen and Lawrence Norman were married on July 3, 1938. They farmed in Marshalltown, Reinbeck, and Clemons, Iowa area during their 38 years together. Gwen also worked at J.C. Penney for 14 years. Gwen belonged to the Liscomb Church of Christ. She was a loving, kind, generous, Christian mother who was loved by all. She is survived by three children: David (Linda) Norman of Clovis, NM, Betty (Jack) Shoup of Reinbeck, IA, and Ralph (Christine) Norman of Minerva, OH as well as 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 9 great, great grandchildren. Also surviving are special friends, Ron & Nanci Galloway who have farmed her land since Lawrence became too ill to continue farming and who have faithfully looked out for her well-being over the last 40 years. Gwen was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Helen; and her husband, Lawrence in 1976; and also by grandson Danny, and a great grandson, Quentin. Visitation for Gwendolyn will be held from 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 22, 2013, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 23, 2013, at the Church of Christ in Liscomb with Pastors Ralph and Andre Norman officiating. Burial will follow services at the Liscomb Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed in her name to her family.
