Gwendolyn Schnathorst

Gwendolyn Schnathorst, 68, of LeGrand, died Monday, December 10th, at her home while in care of her loving family and the Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 15th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Fred Berry of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Dillon officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery north of LeGrand. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown from 4-7:00 p.m. on Friday. Born Gwendolyn McCord on March 22, 1939, in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Fern (Reed) McCord. She graduated from the Marshalltown High Schools Class of 1957. On May 12th, 1959, in Marshalltown, she was united in marriage to Leonard Schnathorst. Following his honorable discharge from the service, they made their home in Marshalltown, LeGrand and moved to their farm north of LeGrand in 1974. Mrs. Schnathorst was active in her childrens activities in school and had been employed at Caseys in LeGrand for 11 years. Gwen treasured her faith and family and enjoyed any family get-togethers - cooking and baking for all of them, going to her children and grandchildrens games and dance recitals, watching college ballgames, babysitting and gardening. She will be greatly missed by many. Left to mourn her loss are her husband, Leonard, children: Sherielyn Sue (Douglas) Heinrichs of Grand Prairie, Texas, Leonard Lynn (Betty) Schnathorst of Quarry and Terry Lance (Kimberly) Schnathorst of Marshalltown, eight grandchildren: Molly, Michelle, Sarah, Paige, Brett, Tessa, Amy and Morgan and her brother, Lawrence (Noel Ann) McCord of Beaumont, TX. In death she has rejoined her parents and sister, Dorothy.
