Harlan Hawkins 60, of Marshalltown died Friday, January 28, 2011 at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center.Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. The family request casual and Hawkeye wear for the celebration of Harlans life. Phone 641-844-1234Harlan John Hawkins aka Harlan the Hawk Hawkins was born on June 6, 1950 to Milton and Julia (Dolash) Hawkins in Brooklyn, Iowa. He graduated from the Tama Toledo High School in 1968. He served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1970 to 1972 serving in Vietnam. Harlan married Terri Bachman on September 30, 1972 in Tama, they later divorced. Harlan had lived in the Marshalltown area for a number of years. He had worked at KIOWA for 32 years until they closed and then Harlan worked for PCA. Harlan was a diehard Hawkeye fan and loved football. He enjoyed being around friends and family and was always there for others, He will be remembered for his sense of humor and being funny and fun to be around.Left to cherish Harlans memory is his companion of 16 years Sherry Eggelston of Marshalltown, his daughter Kimberly Hawkins of Marshalltown and grandchildren Kayla Amundson and Chad Cross, Harlans siblings; Maxine Boles from Tama-Toledo and Jean (Ron ) Jones of Grinnell.Harlan was preceded in death by his parents: Milton and Julia, his son Chad Hawkins and daughter, Heather Hawkins and Sister Karen Schroeder and a sister at birth Goldie Mae and Brother Melvin.
