Harlan Dean Jones, 91, formerly of State Center, currently residing in Davenport, passed away at The Lutheran Home, in Davenport, Iowa, on Friday, May 27, 2011. Funeral services for Harlan will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 31, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home West Marshall Chapel. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m., until time of service at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow services at the Hillside Cemetery in State Center, Iowa, with Full Military Honors. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home West Marshall Chapel is caring for Harlan and his family. Harlan was born January 7, 1920, in Collins, Iowa, the son of Hubert D. Jones and Sadie E. Fuller. Harlan graduated from State Center High School in 1938. He attended Iowa State University and Coe College. He earned his pilots license in Marshalltown, Iowa, before joining the United States Navy during World War II. He served four years and rose to the rank of Petty Officer First Class and was at Pearl Harbor for three years. After the war, Harlan went to work for what is now Sun Oil, as an auditor. He worked for Sun Oil for over thirty years and was manager of the Auditing Department in Tulsa, Oklahoma when he retired. In 1951, Harlan married Norma Joleen Foote. They were married seventeen years and had five children. Ron (Colleen) Jones of Salt Lake City, Leona (Walter) Huffaker of Marshalltown, Julie Scheel of Huxley, Jackie (Mike) Adair of Clinton and Jennifer Dodds of Davenport. Harlan is also survived by his ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Harlan later married Inez Couchman of Tulsa, Oklahoma. They were married for thirty years until her death. Harlan was a member of the Masons, was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He also had the distinction of having worked through the chairs and being a Worshipful Master of his lodge. Harlan was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Ronald Jones, Minnie Weuve and Norma Villont.
