Harlin was born to his loving parents, Henry and Tina Peters on October 18, 1934 and was welcomed by older brother, Marlyn and later younger brother Jim. His life began in rural Hardin County, Iowa. He graduated from Wellsburg High School in the Class of 1953. He went on to serve his country in the United States Army. He was stationed in Fort Sill, Oklahoma and while on a weekend pass, he met his future wife, Vivian Irene Peters in Oklahoma City. On April 13, 1959 they were united in marriage in the little brown church in Rush Springs, Oklahoma. Harlin and Vivian built their life together in Eldora. He worked at the TR as a line-a-type in Marshalltown and then the Eldora Training School. He had many other jobs as he liked working for himself. He and his brother Jim started a successful print shop in his basement and later with his brother Marlyn a lawn spraying business called Petes Weed & Feed, but his favorite job was managing his rentals. He loved the outdoors, going for long walks with Duke and fishing at Pine Lake. He also loved the two weeks he spent vacationing in Oklahoma and Houston to see their daughter, Debbie. He was a member of the Eldora United Methodist Church. Left to live on the best that they can are his daughter Debbie and her husband Matt Kissinger of Pella, three grandsons; Matthew, Harlin, and Nate; his younger brother Jim Peters (Della) of Eldora; and his dear friend Diane Hudson of Eldora. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Vivian and brother Marlyn.
