Harold Lavern Bales

Harold Lavern Bales, 92, of Marshalltown, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Hawkeye Care Center in Marshalltown. Funeral services for Harold will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will start at 9:00 a.m. until service time. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Harold and his family. Harold Bales was born on February 4, 1925 in Laurel, Iowa to Russell and Ollie Grovner Bales. He attended State Center School where he played baseball and football. Harold served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corp as a tank driver mechanic from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1946. On September 17, 1950, Harold was united in marriage to Marilyn Herman at St Marys Catholic Church in Marshalltown. He was employed with Lennox from 1951 until his retirement in 1990. Harold enjoyed fishing with his buddies, ballroom dancing, riding bikes, traveling to Florida, Las Vegas, Yellowstone and Branson among other places, and had never met a stranger. Harold is survived by his son William Bales of Marshalltown. Harold is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, parents Russell and Ollie, three sisters and a brother.
