Harold O. Kallestad, 87, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at the Central Iowa Healthcare. Memorial services for Harold will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 17, 2015, at Elim Lutheran Church with Pastor Karen Cluts and Rev. Allan Thoreson will be officiating. Public visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2015, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home where his family will be present to greet friends. Memorial contributions may be directed in Harolds name to his family to be designated at a later date. Kallestad on June 16, 1928, in Rodman, Iowa, he was the son of Nels and Bertha (Olson) Kallestad. He was baptized at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ottosen, IA on July 15, 1928. Harold attended Rodman Consolidated School, graduating with the class of 1945. He helped with the farming at home until 1950. On February 12, 1950, in Algona, Iowa, Harold married the love of his life, Alice Ann Vaughn and shortly after they moved to Tacoma, Washington where he worked on the docks for Foss Tug Boats and also at the American Smelter. Harold returned to Marshalltown and began working for Iowa Electric Light and Power (now Alliant Energy) on April 7, 1957. He later retired in 1984. Soon after retirement, he went into the Kallestad Appliance business with his wife and closed the store in 1994. Harold was a long time member of Elim Lutheran Church, IBEW Local 204, and past member of Morning Optimist and Marshalltown Kiwanis P.M. Club. He was also involved in getting things organized for the new location of the Emergency Food Box. Harold enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling and most of all being with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Alice, two sons, Michael of Wellsburg, IA and Theodore (Joyce) of Marshalltown, IA; brother-in-law, David Vaughn and his wife Lois Vaughn of Alma, Michigan, along with many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Mat Kallestad and his wife Lila, Oscar Kallestad and his wife Leora, three sisters, Orvilla Pils and her husband Herman, Mildred Darrah and her husband Ivan and Esther Lariviere and her husband Larry.
