Harold (Tony) Lents

Harold I. (Tony) Lents, born May 13, 1939 in Decatur, Illinois, left this earthly home for his eternal home in Heaven on May 31, 2014 at age 75. His passing occurred following a massive stroke. In 1957 he graduated from St. Teresa High School in Decatur, Illinois where he excelled in basketball and baseball. His first year of college was at St. Louis University; he subsequently went on to graduate from Millikin University, in Decatur, Illinois in 1961. After several years of working on the floors of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and the Chicago Board of Trade, Tony and his family moved to Marshalltown, Iowa in 1973 where he was a commodity broker, continuing in that position until the day of his stroke. Tony loved sports, both as a participant and as a spectator. He played basketball and baseball, not only in high school but also in college. Golf was also a high priority whenever the Bandits would gather at Elmwood. Wednesday evenings often were taken up with a group of friends, playing a game of Pitch. Every Sunday found him at First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Kay Lents; son, Kurt (Vickie) Lents of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, granddaughters, Samantha and Aimee; son, Thad Lents of Marshalltown, grandchildren, Drayton and Kaelin; brother, Mike (Judy) Lents of Daytona Beach Shores, Florida; sister, Kaye (Ralph) Pool of Washington, Illinois; many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Marie Lents, and his daughter-in-law, Tara Lents. The family will greet friends from 5:00 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Graceland Cemetery in Decatur, Illinois. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Tony and his family.
