Harry Cripps, 88, of Marshalltown, died early Thursday morning, July 19th, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 23rd, at the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with Pastor Bobby Shomo officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Harry C. Harter VFW Post #839. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 6-8:00 p.m. on Sunday. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Born on April 5th, 1919, at Prairieville near Albion in Marshall County, he was the son of William and Anna (Jorgenson) Cripps. He received his education in the Albion Schools. During WWII, he served our country honorably as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army. He was stationed at the Western Front in Europe. Upon his return to stateside, he met his future wife, Edith Ciaccia, in Philadelphia. The two were united in marriage and moved to Marshalltown. Mr. Cripps was employed as a mechanic at Southard Implement and later at Maulsby Electric until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, especially in Northern Minnesota with family and friends, animals, his grandchildren and enjoyed drives in the countryside. Surviving are his son Lynn (Anni) Cripps of Marshalltown, his grandchildren Nicholas and Christina both of Roanoke, VA., his brothers Willard (Arlene) Cripps and Russ (Mary) Cripps all of Marshalltown, and nieces and nephews. In death he has rejoined his wife, his parents, brothers Eldon, Wallace and Gilbert and sister Wanda Whaley.
