Hattie Bell Gersema

Hattie Gersema, 58, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away at home on March 4, 2015. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 9, 2015, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was the daughter of Durwood and Deloris (Silance) Thompson. Hattie attended school at Dixson High School in Sneads Ferry. On December 9, 1972, Hattie was united in marriage to Chris Gersema in Sneads Ferry, North Carolina, and they have lived in Marshalltown for the last 36 years. She worked in Marshalltown her last position was with Riverside Cemetery. Hattie was a member of Faith Church in Marshalltown. She enjoyed garage saling, loved to cookand was a great cook! Most of all, she loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as they were her whole life. Left to cherish Hatties memory is her husband of 42 years, Chris Gersema. Children: Joie (Jeff) Lorenz, Christina (Chuck Barker) Gersema, and David (Jamie Creekmur) Gersema. Grandchildren: Gage Gersema, Danielle Lorenz, Allen Hart, Jeremiah Hart, Kaley Gersema, Jaden Gersema, Aaeriona Barker, Aundrea Barker, Drake Gersema, Mitch Lorenz, Trent Lorenz, and Peirce Lorenz; and great-grandchildren, Sophia Gersema and Aeris Lorenz. Siblings: Mary Lee Jones, Lee Allen, and Ellen Gray Thompson;father-in-law, Chris Gersema. In death, Hattie rejoins her parents, Deloris and Durwood; siblings, Dolphus Thompson and Emma Murphy; and mother-in-law, Viola Gersema.
