Hazel Elizabeth Klar, 76, of Marshalltown, passed away at her home on Sunday, March 22, 2026.

Hazel Elizabeth Diller was born on July 29, 1949 in Marshalltown. She was the daughter of Francis and Helen Diller. Hazel graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1967. She married Bruce Sawyer soon thereafter, a union that produced two daughters. After their divorce, Hazel remarried in 1978 to Jack Klar, a union that produced a son.
Hazel worked for JBS for thirty-one years, before her retirement in 2020. She was a fantastic seamstress and was known for making doll clothing and furniture. She also enjoyed crafting, reading, bread baking, making candies, was an avid animal lover, a lover of movies, and often took on home renovation projects. Hazel babysat neighborhood children for many years and was also a foster parent including caring for those with special needs. She was a Girl Scout Troop Leader and loved planning various activities for her scouts. Her generosity and caring spirit were often displayed by way of charitable projects performed through her workplace.
Hazel is survived by her children: Jennie (John Lipscomb) Sawyer of Garland, Texas, Jamie (David) Morris of West Lafayette, Indiana, and Jeremiah Klar of Marshalltown. Grandchildren: Hamish Lipscomb of Garland, TX and Topaz Kenton of Elkton, MD. She is also survived by her sister: Arvilla Arnold of Marshalltown; nephews: Noel Arnold, Todd Arnold and Denny Diller along with her many “grand-kitties and grand-puppies”.
Hazel is preceded in death by her husband: Jack; brother: Francis “Butch” Diller; adopted brother: Terry Ruddick and parents: Francis and Helen.
