Hazel (Mrs. Jack) Long, 86, of LeGrand, died Wednesday, August 15th, at the MMSC. Funeral services and a celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 20th, at the LeGrand Friends Church with Pastor Alan Mullikin officiating. She will be laid to rest in the LeGrand Friends Cemetery. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 2-4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Born Hazel Mahle on January 6th, 1921, in LeGrand, Iowa, she was the daughter of Theodore and Margaret (Nelson)Mahle. She graduated from the LeGrand High Schools Class of 1938 and then attended the Central Iowa Business College in Marshalltown. On August 12th, 1941, she was united in marriage to Jack Long in Marshalltown. They made their homes in Montour and LeGrand and she was employed as a bookkeeper and stenographer for doctors and insurance companies. She was a member of the LeGrand Friends Church and the ladies aid of the church. Hazel will be fondly remembered for her love of family, having people stop by to visit over a cup of coffee, her fantastic baking and cooking skills (especially cherry pies and chocolate chip and oatmeal-raisin cookies), and writing special verses or poems. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 66 years, Jack, four children: Warren (Betty) Long of Burlington, Kentucky, Suzanne Levison of San Diego, CA., Tom Long of Cedar Rapids and Jerry Long of Denver, Colorado, 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and her siblings; Esther Keen of LeGrand, Lillian Long of Newton and Donald Mahle of Pine Lake, MN. In death she has rejoined her parents, sisters Anna Marie and Maxine and brother Carl Mahle.
