Hazel Mae Stewart, 101 of Conrad, Iowa died of natural causes July 27, 2011 at theTraymore Nursing Center of Dallas, Texas with Hospice Care provided by Visiting Nurse Association. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home was entrusted with caring for Hazel and her family. Private family graveside services for Hazel were held Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at the Conrad Cemetery, in Conrad, Iowa. After attending county school in Liscomb Township, she graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1927. She attended both Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa, and Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, Iowa, for a year each and then taught county school.She married Maurice Keefer Stewart on Sept. 6, 1934 in Marshalltown. She and her husband lived on a farm in Vienna town ship until retiring to Conrad, IA in 1966. She was active (member) in both Beaman and Conrad United Methodist Churches, where she taught Sunday School for many years and was president of U.M.W. in both churches. She was also president of both the Vienna and Conrad Federated Women's Clubs as well as first president of B.C. Music Boosters Club. She also served on the Marshall County planning committee of the Farm Bureau. She was a former member of Iowa State Quilter's Guild and the Marshalltown clubs of Ornothology, Iris and Daylily.Survivors include ason, Richard K. of Dallas, Texas and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1966; a daughter, Janet M. Stewart in 1994 and sisters: Gail Peters (1904-1996); Reba Erickson (1907-1952); and Goldie Cooper (1912-2000).
