Helen Chambers, 78, of Marshalltown, died Thursday, October 6, 2011, at the Iowa River Hospice House with her loving family at her side.A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 11th, at St. Marys Catholic Church with Fr. Jim Miller officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Monday with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorials to Iowa River Hospice.Born Helen Regina Jacobs on January 13, 1933 in New Hampton, Iowa, she was the daughter of John and Johanna (Hoffman) Jacobs. She graduated from St. Marys High School at North Washington.On September 12, 1959, she was united in marriage to Robert Dean Chambers in Blue Earth, MN. They resided in Marshalltown where she was employed at Marshalltown Instruments for over 25 years, St. Marys School, Sunlife and Healing Acupuncture Clinic. She devoted her time and talents to the House of Compassion, Emergency Food Box and the Caring Center to help those in need. Helen was an active member of the St. Mary parish and enjoyed shopping, traveling (to Branson), cooking (especially her sage stuffing and rice dish), volunteering and playing hand-held video games and treasured her family.Left to cherish her memory are her children: Paula Griggs (Earl Purvis) and Daryl (Cindy) Boehmer, all of Marshalltown; her grandchildren- Angie (DJ) Eastman, Katie (James) Lundberg, Kevin (Kristen) Boehmer and Kayla Boehmer all of Marshalltown; her great-grandchildren- Layken, Emerson, Quinn, Mallory and Molly Regina (great-grandmas middle name), all of Marshalltown; her siblings- Mary Meihost of Waverly, IA, John (Beverly) Jacobs of Ionia, IA, Rita (Leo) Rasing of New Hampton, IA, Jo Ann Meihost of Readlyn, IA, Francis (Josie) Jacobs of Fredericksburg, IA, sister-in-law Marilyn Jacobs and many nieces and nephews and friends.In death, Helen rejoined her husband Dean, her parents, a daughter in infancy, brother in infancy, brothers Leo and Linus and brothers-in-law Ray and Paul.
