Helen Guthrie

Helen Marie Guthrie, 90, passed away on the morning of Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Park Centre in Newton, Iowa. Per Helen’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and the family will be holding a memorial service for her at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the Texoma Southern Baptist Church, located at 4501 Shay Rd, Kingston, OK 73439.  Pastor Keith Rogers will be officiating Helen's services.  Memorial contributions may be directed in Helen’s name to her family.  For further information or to send a condolence please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call (641) 844-1234.  Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Helen and her family. Helen Marie Preston was born on August 15, 1929 in Missouri, the daughter of Carl Preston and Tillie Holtsclaw.  She was a graduate of Rhodes High School in 1947. On Valentine’s Day of 1948, Helen married her high school sweetheart, William “Bill” Guthrie. Bill's career took them to many states over the years finally settling in Oklahoma. Helen was a devoted homemaker and mother to their two sons.  Following the death of her husband she moved from Oklahoma back to Iowa. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Don (Rose) Guthrie and Robert “Bob” (Ann) Guthrie; four grandchildren: Tarah Guthrie, Holly (Larry) Quijas, Heather (Chris) Choate and Megan (Mark Schomaker) Stearns; great-grandchildren: Jace, Madison, Parker, Macy and Abilene as well as several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband in 2006, parents, Bob and Tillie Brittain, biological father and two sisters, Dorothy Hill and Donna Shuey.
