Born Helen Elizabeth Wallace on May 5, 1937 in Marshalltown, the youngest child of Edgar and Ellen (Johnson) Wallace. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1956.
On December 31, 1956, Helen was united in marriage with Marvin Jon Landis in New Sharon, IA. From this union were four children, Wesley, Douglas, Theresa and Troy. Helen was a homemaker along with doing odd summer jobs such as walking beans with her crew of family, and then later retiring from Dayco.
With Marvin by her side, Helen loved to sing and dance – they could harmonize with one another beautifully. Helen would travel to watch Marvin, then later her sons and grandsons, race –Webster City, Iowa Falls, Eldora, Marshalltown and Vinton. Helen was all about her family; she loved to spend time with her family and support them in all they did. Helen enjoyed watching NASCAR and supposedly “hated” WWE Wrestling, but you would catch her watching it too. Helen enjoyed gardening and took pride in her flowers. She loved people and loved to be a caretaker for both Marvin and Doug.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin in 2015; son, Douglas in 2021; her siblings, Elmer (Jackie) Wallace, Ralph (Elizabeth) Wallace, Thelma (Deb) Nablo, Ruth (Ed) George, Marjorie (Leonard) Raum, Dale Wallace, and an infant brother; her brother-in-law, John Malmquist; the Landis brothers and sisters and their spouses.
Left to cherish Helen’s memory are: her children, Wesley (Cindy) Landis of Eldora, Teri (Michael) Aucoin of New Providence, and Troy (Lori) Landis of Minnesota; grandchildren, Jonathon (Jennifer) Landis, Courtney (Andrea) Landis, Cody Landis, David Landis, Ashley Harding and Edward Aucoin; and great-grandchildren, Isabella and Victoria Landis; Aaden, Ahna and Cade Landis; and Dusten Landis. Also surviving: her sister, Gertrude Malmquist; sister-in-law, Norma Wallace; and her cherished nieces and nephews.
