Henry Picray, 67, more often known as Hap, of the Iowa Veterans home in Marshalltown, formerly of Sand Springs, Iowa, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 29th, at the IVH. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 4th, at the Iowa Veterans Home Cemetery. Full military honors will be presented by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #839 and by the American Legion Posts in the Marshalltown area. Friends and family are invited to meet at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home, 1209 Iowa Avenue West, at 10:00 a.m. for final viewing and procession to the cemetery. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph. 641-844-1234. Born on May 12th, 1948, in Monticello, Iowa, he was the son of Felix Henry and Elizabeth Irene (Redmond) Picray. He received his education in the area of his birth. Henry served our country honorably in the United States Army and saw two tours of Viet Nam. He came back to the United States and began a lengthy career as a truck driver- hauling everything from common cargo to even logs. He drove to every state in the Continental United States and retired from JB Hunt after 2 million miles driven for them accident free. Henry enjoyed wood-working and was sometimes known as being mischievous. He treasured his family and was extremely proud to be a U.S. Veteran. On June 27th, 1986, he was united in marriage to Sharon Spitzer in Sand Springs, Iowa. They continued to make their home there. Mr. Picray was a member of the Catholic faith and a lifetime member of both the VFW and American Legions in Monticello. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sharon, his children-Phillip Picray of Swisher, Michelle Hanson of Jefferson and Nathan Picray of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren; his siblings- Stephen (Ann) Picray of Cedar Rapids, Robin Picray of St. Paul, MN., Dana (Cathi) Picray of Sand Springs, Melanie (Newton) Guerry of Columbus, MS., and James (Pam) Picray of Jacksonville, FL., as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. In death, Henry rejoined his parents, his grandson Gabriel and a brother, Kevin.
