Henry Siemers, 78, of Marshalltown, passed away Friday, November 4, 2011 at the Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. The burial and full military rites will be held at the Ames Municipal Cemetery in Ames. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 8, 2011 from 5-7 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the family. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Henry and his family.Henry Siemers was born on July 24, 1933 in Ames, IA; he was the son of Henry Siemers Jr. and Ethel Mae (Sickels) Siemers. Henry graduated from the Huxley High School with many athletic honors. On December 8, 1951, Henry married the love of his life, Elizabeth Toresdahl. Henry then earned his Bachelors of Arts degree from Iowa State University and then received his Masters Degree from Middle Tennessee State University. He served our country honorably in the United States Air Force, earning his honorable discharge as a captain. He was a proud veteran and a patriotic citizen. He also was passionate about ISU and his hometown of Huxley thinking about them daily. Henry also raised livestock.He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Liz Siemers of Marshalltown; his children: Jim (Deb) Siemers of Round Rock, TX, and Cindy (Les) Baumbach of Council Bluffs, IA; his grandchildren: Jimmy Siemers of Orlando, Florida, Eric Siemers of San Diego, California, Bret Baumbach of Palo Alto, California, Betsy Baumbach of Council Bluffs, IA, and Bridget Baumbach of Council Bluffs, IA; and his sister, Judy (Dr. Richard) Neiman of Iowa City, IA.He is preceded in death by his son, Steven Siemers and his parents. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Dick Neiman, Mercy Hospital Staff, and The University of Iowa Hospital Staff for the outstanding care during his final days.
