Henry F. Zitzow, 87, of Marshalltown, died Friday, February 15, 2013, at the Villa del Sol Nursing Home in Marshalltown. A visitation for Henry will be held from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m., Monday, February, 18, 2013, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Per Henrys wishes there will not be a funeral service. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed in his name to his family. Henry was born June 6, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Henry and Myrtle (Furman) Zitzow Sr. He was raised and educated in the Chicago area until the age of fourteen, at which time his family moved to the LeGrand, Iowa area. He went on to graduate High School in LeGrand and then a short time later he began serving his country as a member of the United States Air Force during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, Henry returned home and was united in marriage to June Brandt on November 2, 1947, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in State Center. They made their home on the family farm where Henry spent his working years as a farmer. They retired from farming in 1988 and moved to Marshalltown. After moving to Marshalltown, and during his retirement years, Henry was employed at Tally Ho Travel, Godfrey Motors and American Enterprise. Henry enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing and boating. He was a member of the American Legion and the Lincoln Valley Golf Course. Henry is survived by his wife June, of Marshalltown, his children: Dennis (Nancy) Zitzow of rural Marshalltown, David Zitzow of Forrest City and Sherrie Funke of State Center, his brother Richard (Bernita) Zitzow of Marshalltown, his seven grandchildren: Mike, Scott, Ali, Clint, Ashley, Jacob and Jesse, and his two great-granddaughters: Kira and Nataley.Henry was preceded in death by his parents and a son in his infancy.
