Herbert Francis Dickkut Sr., 94, of Marshalltown passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Services for Herb will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. Public visitation will be on Friday, January 30, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Herb and his family. Herb was born on September 8, 1920 in Montour to John Henry and Mabel Kinsey Dickkut. Herb served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1942 until 1945. On June 18, 1949 Herb was united in marriage to Bernice Selvig in Mason City. Herb and Bernice farmed on their Century Farm in rural Marshalltown. He enjoyed watching Twins baseball, rooting for the Iowa Hawkeyes and going to the casino. Herb was also an avid gardener; planting watermelon, cantaloupe and sweet corn and had amazing flowers. Herb was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Farm Bureau and the American Legion. He also enjoyed buying and selling Holstein cattle and treasured the time his son, Herb Jr. was able to assist in the farming chores. Left to cherish Herbs memory are his children: Virginia Ginny (Ray) Stowell of Marshalltown, Joanne (Ken) Callen of Marshalltown, Herb (JoEllin) Dickkut of Marshalltown, Kathy (Bob) Clawson of Albion and Nancy Dickkut(Randy) of rural Marshalltown, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, cousin Ruth (John) Cable and several nieces and nephews. Herb is preceded in death by his wife Bernice, parents John and Mabel, brothers John and Bud Dickkut and grandchildren Laura Hunt and Herbert John Dickkut.
