Herbert Drumm, 77, of Marshalltown, died Sunday, September 20, 2009, at Iowa River Hospice House.Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2009, at Fellowship Baptist Church. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday evening from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Ph 641-844-1234.Herbert Drumm was born on May 19, 1932, at the Muscatine County Home in Muscatine. He was the son of Peter Drumm and Caroline Rinerex. He was raised in West Liberty by his foster parents, James and Mattie Smallwood. He attended school in West Liberty. On January 13, 1957, Herb married Karen Tietge at the Christian Church in Nichols, Iowa. The couple lived in Muscatine and Iowa City after marriage and then to Marshalltown in 1967. In 1979, they moved to Lebanon, OR. In 1985, they then moved to Atwater, CA, and then returned Marshalltown in 1989.Herb worked as a farm hand around West Liberty and Muscatine. He then worked at Western Mill, retiring in 1983 due to a back injury while in Lebanon, OR. He enjoyed BBQ grilling, gardening, doing yardwork, and spending time with his family.Surviving Herb are his wife, Karen, of Marshalltown; his children, Kay(Jay) Cartwright of Marshalltown, Herbert E. Gene Drumm(Diane Bown) of Marshalltown, Barbara(Daniel) Ramirez of Marshalltown, Janice(Bobby) Key of Albany, OR, and Kenneth(Laura Smith) Drumm of Marshalltown; his 10 granddaughters and 10 grandsons; his 9 great-grandchildren and one on the way; his sisters, Susabelle(Lyle) Marks of Springfield, MO, and Hazel(Steve) Plum of Austin, TX; and several foster brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews.In death, he has rejoined his parents and foster parents, his in-laws, Charlotte (Vernon) Stonum, LaVerne Cook, and Homer Tietge; his grandson, Daniel A. Ramirez, and his son, James Drumm.
