Hilda Aswegan

Hilda Aswegan, 90, of Grandview Heights Nursing and Rehab Center, formerly of Union, Iowa passed away Sunday, October 21, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Union Community Church in Union, Iowa. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Phone 641-844-1234.Hilda Verdene Siefken was born on October 26, 1921; she was the daughter of Simon and Hilka (Siebrands)Siefken. She received her education in the Reinbeck Community School District. On October 24,1939 Hilda was united in marriage to Floyd Aswegan in Reinbeck, Iowa, they had lived in Reinbeck, Grundy Center andin Union, Iowa from 1952 until moving to Grandview Heights Nursing Home. Hilda had worked beside her husband Floyd when they were farming, she had been a Stanley Product Distributor for 37 years and she had worked at Ben Franklin in Eldora for a few years. Hilda had been a member of Union Community Church and served in several capacities, also singing in the choir, she was a member of American Legion Auxiliary and in earlier years she had been 4-H leader. Hilda loved her family especially her grand and great-grandchildren, she always enjoyed the outdoors growing all kinds of flowers, inside and out, loved to fish and camp, but one of her favorite things was cooking and sharing with all her family.Left to cherish Hildas memory is her husband of 73 years, Floyd, her daughters: Donna (Fred) Mitchem of Marshalltown, Iowa, Alice (Richard) Lyman of Tama, Iowa, Judith (Doug) Bagenstos of Oelwein, Iowa, and Jane (Ronald) Puls of Malcomb, Iowa, and her grandchildren: Mike (Darlene) Mitchem, Pamela (Craig)Muench, Jeffrey (Joni) Lyman, David (Stacey) Lyman, Rodney (Donna) Lyman, Trent (Genell) Lyman, Mark(Jeanne) Bagenstos, Clint (Jenny) Bagenstos, Tammy(Chris) Morrison, Troy (Linda) Wilson and Jamie Wilson, 34 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren, Hildas siblings: Mavis Mathern of Dunnellan, Florida, Marlin (Gail) Siefken of Kansas City, Marie Smith of Lincoln, Iowa, Donald (Joann) Siefken of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and sister-in-law June Seifken of Des Moines, Iowa and many nieces and nephews. Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Hilka, sister, Verdene and brother, Hilko and grandchildren Tina Wilson and Matthew.
