Hilda White, age 90, fondly known as the “First Lady of the White House” of Marshalltown, passed away in the peace of her daughter’s home in Grundy Center while in care of Compassus Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com . Ph. 641-844-1234. Born Hilda Bleeker on November 5th, 1927, in Grundy Center, IA, she was the daughter of Hie and Hazel (Menninga) Bleeker. She received her education in the area of her birth. Hilda was employed in a canning factory, sewing plant and Econofoods. On November 12th, 1971, she was united in marriage to Ervin White in Rock Island, IL. They made their home in Marshalltown the senior years of their life at the Westtown Apartments. Mrs. White was a member of the 1st Baptist Church and enjoyed time with her friends at Westtown and treasured her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting- even earning awards for her generosity in donating them to cancer support. It was a good night when her favorite John Cena was on TV! Left to cherish her memory is her children- Richard Lee Wheeler of Brooklyn, IA, Carol Joann Elliott of Grundy Center and Jerri Lynn Burnham of Marshalltown as well as Ervin’s daughter Kathy Sue Turner of Marshalltown, and 11 grandchildren. In death, Hilda rejoined her beloved Ervin, brothers Jacob Arends and Henry and Harm Bleeker, sisters Marlene Simcox, Arlene Essen and Annie Ash and her parents.
