Hildegard Pappas

Hildegard Hilde Pappas, 88, lifelong Gladbrook resident and retired postal clerk, passed from this earthly life on the morning of Sunday, May 10th, 2015, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center. A celebration of Hilde's life will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook, Iowa. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Born Hildegard Arlene Engelland on March 23rd, 1927, in Gladbrook, she was the daughter of Claus and Marie Wilhelmina (Martens) Engelland. She graduated from the Gladbrook High School. On November 2nd, 1946, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Hilton Jack Duane Pappas at the parsonage of the Peace Church in Gladbrook. The young couple made their home in Gladbrook where she was postal clerk and a loving wife and mother. Hilde enjoyed her gardens, bird watching, animals, and sewing and was gifted with being able to make anything in clothing. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 68 years, Jack, two daughters- Sandi Pappas of Gladbrook and Diane Pappas of Albion, son Scott Pappas of Gladbrook and five grandchildren: Traci Zoffka, Shannon Zoffka, Amber Matteson, Zachary Pappas and Brock Pappas. In death, Hilde rejoined her parents, brother Bill Kroger and sister Louise Lynch.
