Hilton 'Jack' Pappas

Hilton Duane Pappas Jack, 91, of Gladbrook, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2016 at his home. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook. Memorials may be directed to the family. Jack Pappas was born on August 8, 1925 in Conrad to George and Victorine Eimers Pappas. After his schooling, Jack served his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1942 until 1945 as a Gunners Mate 3rd Class on the Battleship New Mexico. On November 2, 1946, Jack was united in marriage to Hildegard Engelland at the Peace Church Parsonage. They made their home in Gladbrook. Jack had been employed as a brick layer. He was a member of the American Legion, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever and a proud NRA member. In Jacks free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a great sense of humor and was a diehard Iowa Hawkeyes fan. Jack is survived by his children: Sandi Pappas of Gladbrook, Diane Pappas of Albion and Scott Pappas of Gladbrook. Grandchildren: Traci Zoffka, Shannon Zoffka, Amber Matteson, Zachary Pappas and Brock Pappas. Great grandchildren: Greyson Fraser, Gage Fraser, Alexa Almanza, Tristan Zoffka, Ayden Kelley, Breanna Matteson and Ailyn Willow Pappas. He is also survived by his sister Dorothy Landt and his black lab Ruger. Jack is preceded in death by his wife Hildegard, parents George and Victorine and sister Dara Wooten.
