Hubert Ernest (Mike) Alexander was born on May 30, 1926, in Rhodes, Iowa, the son of Hugh Clark and Edith Elizabeth (Freland) Alexander. He was raised and educated in the Rhodes School District, graduating from Rhodes High School in 1944. Following high school Mike honorably served his country in WWII. He served in the U.S. Army, 26th Infantry, E Company, notably in the battle of the bulge under General Patton. Mike was employed at Fisher Governor in Marshalltown for 26 years, retiring in 1987. He has also worked in younger years with Chicago North Western Railroad, did carpentry work, and was a town cop in Rhodes. Mikes biggest enjoyment was being at home on his acreage with his dogs, feeding birds, raising chickens. He had enjoyed raising and training horses in his younger days. He had great fun rebuilding antique tractors and engines (although a few parts went flying out in the ditch on purpose), hunting and just walking his property enjoying nature. Left to cherish Mikes memory are his best friend Irene Elsberry; nieces and nephews: Carla (David) Young; Jerry (Flora) Cross, Craig Cross, Greg Bachman, Beth Buck, Paul Stressman; Mark Alexander, Randy Alexander; David (Cinda) Long, Meryle (Daryl) Gagon, Denny (Gladys) Long, April Long; Robert (Beth) Alexander, Sarah Jones, Bart (Julie) Alexander, and Clark Alexander; step-son Phillip Nicholas. All of whom will miss his guidance and practical jokes. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers and sisters: Leo John Alexander, Alice Stressman, Leland Alexander, Lela Long and Bobbie Alexander.
