Hugh Allen Kelly, 79, of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown died Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010 at the Iowa Veterans Home. A memorial service celebrating Hughs life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 12th at the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel. He will be laid to rest in the Iowa Veterans Home Cemetery. Hugh was born on October 6th, 1930 in Mason City to parents Hugh J. and Verlie M. (Pierce) Kelly. He attended St. Joseph School, graduating in 1948. Hugh then joined the United States Navy. After his honorable discharge, Hugh worked as a Merchant Marine for many years. Hugh had been a resident of the Iowa Veterans Home for the last 25 years. He enjoyed music, especially Irish songs. He also enjoyed reading and poetry. Left to cherish Hughs memory is his sister Vivian Bell, his brother Vere (Rose) Kelly, his brother Larry (Jan) Kelly, as well as many friends. In death, Hugh has rejoined his parents; his sisters: Virginia Kelly and Dorothy Sprinkle; and his brothers: Parnell Kelly, Robert Kelly, and Leland Kelly.
