Sut Hill

August 14, 1947 — May 25, 2025

Hugh “Sut” Hill Jr., age 77 of Cedarburg, WI and formerly of Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2025 at Silverado North Shore Memory Care Community.

Sut was a proud and charismatic man with a love for life, family, and adventure. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, successful businessman, and a loyal friend to many.

Born Hugh Fredric Hill Jr. on August 14, 1947 in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of Aileen Belle (Matthews) and Hugh "Fritz" Fredric Hill Sr., Sut carried forward their strength, wit, and work ethic throughout his life. The Hill family moved to Tama, Iowa when Sut was two years old. He graduated from Tama-Toledo High School in 1965, then attended UNI and Marshalltown Community College. Sut proudly served his country in the Marine Corps Reserve.

Sut was a man of bold presence and unmatched drive. His first car dealership was Sut Hill Pontiac and he owned this from 1974 to 1977. He built a thriving career as the owner of several dealerships, where his savvy business sense and larger-than-life personality left a lasting mark. He had a passion for all things automotive, from running his dealerships to collecting toy semi-trucks and NASCAR memorabilia-his enthusiasm for engines and speed never waned.

He was equally passionate about the great outdoors, particularly his cherished annual fishing trips to Canada, which became a meaningful tradition of peace, storytelling, and joy.

On July 30, 1986, Sut was united in marriage with Tammy Bradley in Corydon, IA. Sut loved deeply, though not always in the most traditional ways. He was stubborn, sharp-witted, and had a laugh that could fill a room. His sense of humor was as big as his voice and both were unmistakably his. Even through his final battle with dementia, a cruel and humbling chapter for a man so proud of his mind, glimpses of that Sut spark would shine through. He always met life's hardest trials with grit and heart, including the devastating loss of his son, Jason. During difficult times, he offered everything he had-his strength, his presence, his unwavering love.

Sut was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved son, Jason Hill, whose memory remained close to his heart. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Tammy, who stood by him through life's many highs and lows. He is lovingly remembered by his children: Brad (April), Chad, and Whitney (Jake); his daughter-in-law, Gina (Nolan); and his beloved grandchildren: Tessa, Tyson, Kade, and Zoe. He is also survived by his sisters, Randi (Duane) Hoefing and Dianne Seaman; along with countless family and friends who will continue to tell stories in his honor.

To know Sut was to have a story about him-likely a loud one, probably a funny one, and definitely an unforgettable one.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at the funeral home. Sut will be laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama.
